About Me

"Art is a bridge between the soul and the world"

Gustav Klimt

Welcome to my world of colour and texture.

My mission is to create expressive, atmospheric paintings which invite you in and lift the soul.

Nostalgic yet contemporary...

I aim to explore connections, emotions and memories, which I hope you'll relate to and enjoy.

Art is powerful and engaging when it is familiar, but equally when it's abstract and thought-provoking.

BACKGROUND

I am a mixed media abstract artist and interior designer from West London and have lived and worked in this vibrant, cultural area all my life.

I have been painting and sculpting for as long as I can remember.

My background is a foundation in Fine art, a Bachelor degree in Interior Design, and over 30 years experience in the field of Interiors. Lockdown  gave me time to be creative, and make the leap , leaving behind the structured world of the industry and returned to my lifelong passion of making art, spending more time creating unique contemporary pieces, and blending these two disciples.

As an artist, I love the freedom of visual meaningful expression.

As a designer, I view art as an essential layer for your home, that really can transform a space, pull the room together and add character to your interior; it is about expressing personality, feeling, structure and balance, which has presence and connects with you and gives you joy.

A larger statement piece can anchor a room, as a unique focal point, can be a starting point, or a finishing touch for a room.

A collection of multiple pieces, in a gallery wall set-up, allows for wider, more varied interest, and a smaller scale piece in a quiet corner which needs a lift, can be so effective-

no strict rules other than you should love it!

MY ART JOURNEY - INSPIRATION - 'A VISUAL DIARY'

My art is inspired by the transience of nature and its beauty, forces and fragilities, the elements, sunlight and moonlight. I aim to capture a visual diary of nostalgic moments, emotions, conversations and snippets of memories from my background, my daily walks, worldwide travels and love of flowers; to create art with energy and soul.

From lush green London parks, woodlands and forests further afield, capturing the tiny anticipated window of delicate spring blooms, full of promise and possibility, bursts of blossoms seen abundantly locally, and exotic florals and foliage which intrigue. I embrace both the balance of calmness, energy and colour of our changing seasons.

This art journey has taught me to slow down, pause, observe and reflect on the simple joy of interconnection with nature... appreciate the beauty of the outdoors, its role in wellbeing and healing from the challenges of daily life.

Sharing this through my art and inviting you to find your own story, gives me infinite joy.

THE POWER OF FLOWERS

Flowers have the magical ability to make me feel calm and reflective, but also energised and uplifted.

Using different scales and perspectives and zooming in and out, my floral paintings

lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Sometimes whimsical, they are more about the energy of the colours, shapes, and textures that I feel are evoked from their physical properties and feelings from those experience. I draw parallels of human interaction and the natural world, personifying flora in its various stages of calm and energy to appeal to human emotion, reflection and contemplation.

PAINTING / MIXED MEDIA/ GOLD THEMES

My work has evolved through a variety of collections and has had its own journey, but fundamentally there are common threads.

The use of gold leaf/paint is a link throughout many of my pieces. Inspired by my spirituality, my love of golden church icons, and the symbolism which represents, light, optimism, renewal.

Contrasting and layering delicate marks against bold gestural strokes and textural areas, a vibrant energy can be found in my expressive paintings, layered with gold accents, either as threads, highlights or backgrounds. Mixed media layers add texture and depth, and can include some unexpected materials, up-cycled materials like egg/pistachio shell in my "Conceptual' series.

The freedom and purity of abstraction and using many techniques is what motivates me, as well as the excitement of what each unique piece will result in, inviting interpretation from the viewer.

CLAY SCULPT

My 'one-off' clay sculpt pieces are born out of my love of sculpture, decorative accessories, and 3-dimensional design. Trinket dishes and boxed art can be personalised as gifts.

A CHANGING WORLD. -   CONCEPTUAL

Having collectively felt the varying effects of a global pandemic, climate change and the degradation of the environment, I have sought to reflect and embrace the stages of fragility, turmoil, resilience and hope in our human perceptions, thoughts and attitudes.

The pandemic inspired my abstract ‘Conceptual' collection  - a response to a shared anxious time alongside environmental awareness. I love recycling and reusing wherever possible to minimise waste, and these pieces of work have been created with some up-cycled materials, primarily shells, with the intention of being both literal and symbolic.

This refocused my mind and reignited my onward artistic journey in the wake of a new decade of being more mindful of our actions and of looking after our planet and ourselves both physically and spiritually.
